Hi Leute,
Hi guys,
one week is over now and it is time for a first resumee.
Firstly, I have to say I have been a bit sceptical concerning the atmosphere and way of living in my host family in the first days. But I can say these doubts have been blown away after only a few days. I have been able to integrate myself appropriately into the family. We are understanding each other very good and my tasks in the household and baby sitting are not as much as I expected. The main reason for that are my host parents who recognized I am quite a long time afar from home and that I am not really in the mood for arranging several other things when I arrived back home.
In my eyes, they actually not have so many arguments, because I am working 40 hours - more than both of them.
Today has been a diversified day. From the beginning on, I answered each phone call, after I only listened to the conversations yesterday for getting a feeling of the people and their questions and issues.
I already received the first compliments from my colleagues directly after the call for my choice of words and how I communicate. I almost received the same compliments from the other side, the spectators. Already now, I plan (and already started with that) to collect a callers'-best-of. We even have a folder in the office with the title "Scary Letters". The title already explains what it contains.
And I also got to know our favourite contact, Mr. G. from S.-A.. This guy was about to explain me in bad Spanish and even German how the names of our TV hosts and broadcastings should be wrote - those have Portuguese names...
But, I have been able to make him finish the call after only 4(!) minutes, so this issue could not have been that worse. One of my teammates claimed I have been too friendly with him, but she stopped that after looking on the duration of the call. The longest conversation in 25 years of Eurosport took 33 minutes. Not bad, hm?
Beside the calls and emails, I dealed with the editorial incoming (postal) mails, which will be the first thing I have to do after arriving in the office in the future. After noon-break I used a partner agency for searching for appropriate photos for our highlight broadcastings and collecting them.
All in all, it is not a complicate work, but a lot of small steps to be done. But I have made everything just in time and that is the main important thing. That looked about differnet before the noon break, because I really had troubles to write an EPG (Electronic Program Guide)-text about the European water championships which will be in August. You can find the EPG-texts by pressing the "info"-button on your remote control (during watching the broadcasting). Those texts are wrote by our program and spectators' editorial, so also by myself in the future.
This day has been kind of a self-fulfilment, because I reached the goal I inteded and because I really did not need a lot of help.
That's how it should continue from my side!
